Being a Mom doesn't stop just because I lost a leg…

Is Seeing Really Believing?

Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day. Houses all across America had “hidden cameras” setup to record, they were booby trapped by some sneaky leprechauns, and every parent’s favorite, they were messed up. I am talking chairs being flipped over, green milk, toilet paper hanging from ceiling fan, pillows being placed everywhere pillows shouldn’t be. THE WORKS. And I would be lying if my house didn’t have the exact same thing happen (except somehow my dog got spray painted green 🍀🤔). Of course those hidden cameras mysteriously were flipped over & turned off. But the proof was in the pudding (or giant mess in most cases). Those sneaky leprechauns came & made that mess. And nobody will be able to convince my kids otherwise. Not even my 10 year old. But not because he doesn’t know better, but because we have this knowledge that seeing doesn’t always equal believing (even when it comes to tiny, green leprechauns).

Is seeing REALLY believing?

I’m going to ask you guys a very serious question. And I want an honest answer. Have you ever seen a jolly guy, in a red suit, ever slide down your chimney & magically float back up? Yes or no? But on Christmas morning, is there presents from Santa left under your tree? Or how about on Easter Sunday? Have you seen some super spy type rabbits leaving Easter Baskets at your door & colored eggs in your yard? But every Easter you have an Easter Egg hunt and there might even be a few Easter Baskets left to be found and rummaged through? And the list of “imaginary” creatures/people/animals goes on, and on, and on. And I believe in ALL of them. From Santa Clause to the Loch Ness Monster. Because we (and by “we”, I mean you, me, the kids down the street, my Grandma, your Grandma, ALL OF US) make these people/animals/etc. exist. We believe in the magic of these things. We create the spirit of their beings. And without belief, what would we have? No magic. No miracles.

Ok, let me ask you one more question. Two at most. First one is, have you ever seen God? Not just the miracles or gifts or miracles that He provides us. I mean God, Himself. The Big Man Upstairs. The Lord Almighty. The Creator of Heaven & Earth. People usually picture Him in a white robe, possibly a purple sash, brown beard. Have you physically seen Him in the flesh? I have my suspicions on what your answer may be, so I am going to go ahead and ask my next question. Just because you might not have actually seen God in the flesh, do you still believe He exists? I know I do. I am living proof of one of the miracles He has provided my husband, my son, my family, my friends, and most importantly, me! He gave me a second chance at life. It might be a little bit different than my first round, but it’s a life & it was the greatest gift He could have ever given me. So I believe in God but I have never seen him. I actually probably believe in Him more than I believe in myself some days. And, if I had to guess, most of us probably would say the same thing (to the first part anyways). I won’t say all because I truly believe that some people have already met Him at the Pearly Gates & He just told them it just isn’t their time yet and sent them back to their home here on Earth. But outside of His miracles, and a very select few, we whole heartedly believe in Him, in God, without ever seeing Him. So, now, apply the same logic to those tiny, green leprechauns. We might not actually ever see them, but their spirit still causes a ruckus in a lot of homes.

Trust that He is there. 💕

And for those of you reading that might be on the fence here, I might have something to persuade you as well. Have you ever seen a million dollars? Most of you will say no (again, I say MOST), but does that mean a million dollars isn’t real? Of course not. Believer or not, we all know that’s true. (And yes, I did steal this analogy from the movie “The Santa Clause” 😂🎅). So, now I hope you understand why believing doesn’t necessarily mean seeing. And just because you see something, doesn’t mean you have to believe in something (or someone) either. Because it does go both ways. But in my house, and in the hearts of my children, my husband, and myself, we know. Having faith, believing, whatever you want to call it, has its’ purpose because it creates magic & miracles and so much more every single day. I did not see God save my life, but I know he did. I did not “see” Santa slide down my chimney this year, but I know he was here. Because the spirit of something is so much stronger than one person, place, animal, or thing.

So, shut your eyes. Be at ease. It’s ok to not always be distracted by the world around us. Because even in the darkness, there is light. You might not always see it, but it’s there. I promise you… it’s there.

Sending you all my balance,

The One Legged Mom
