The One Legged Mom

Being a Mom doesn't stop just because I lost a leg…

Something New

So today I did something I never thought I’d get to do after losing my leg. Something that I thought required 2 legs but turns out it doesn’t. All it really takes is a little bit of strength, some pretty good balancing skills & a whole lot of desire. It’s nothing fancy and I’m sure 1/4 of you do it on the daily. But to me, I’m marking it as a win for the home team. For me & myself, this is a monumental occasion that will be celebrated accordingly. Are you ready for it? I gave my 2 year old daughter a PIGGY BACK RIDE across my house today!!!! And not like a pony ride piggy back ride but a literal stand up & go piggy back ride. Probably wasn’t quite what you were expecting to be defined as monumental but hot damn, did I feel like a bad ass.

Life’s what you make of it. It’s hard & frustrating & unkind some days. Some days life wins & some days you win. And unfortunately there is usually a whole lotta days that we literally don’t know what game we are even playing or who actually won. So that’s why we have to take the days, or even just the moments that we do win & treat them like you just won the Super Bowl or World Series or whatever game floats your boat. Because doing that helps make your losing streak sting a little less. We aren’t going to win them all, but I do promise you aren’t going to lose them all either. There might be only a few “W’s” on that giant wall of outcomes that is our life, but those W’s are there. And they are as big as we make them. And honestly, you can capture a few more of them if you go back to the basics of what makes you happy. Being a mom makes me happy. So being able to give my daughter a piggy back ride, despite the fact I have one leg, is a win. It’s an accomplishment that no one will ever be able to take away from me. Don’t be ashamed of the losses because it’s very likely they taught you one more play or one more defense technique that helped you win the next one. And since wins are few & far between sometimes, we have to appreciate whatever helped us achieve them, especially the losses.

So what’s the point of this post, besides to toot my own horn of course (toot! toot!), is that you have to attempt to get that win. You aren’t going to get anywhere by sitting back & watching life and all it’s could be big moments pass you by. If I have learned anything with everything that life has thrown at me, its that life isn’t going to just hand you the things you desire most in this world. You have to work for them. It’ll take a lot of slips, trips & falls to get up that mountain. But as long as you don’t give up, the view from the top is amazing, enlightening & inspiring. Never forget to rest & learn from the path you are currently traveling. And most importantly, do your best to defy all odds. The odds might be stacked against you at 5 to 1 sometimes but remember that you are that 1. Your potential is unlimited & you can do anything you set your heart on. That single odd is your chance. Your chance to impress yourself, to feel like you again, and to do what you want to achieve. Life is tough but darling, so are you.
