When do you know when you’re on the right path in life? That you’re heading the right way? That you are heading straight for greener pastures? You don’t. Because life is full of winding & roads, compasses that don’t always work, detours, and flat tires. It almost seems sometimes you just get done fixing one thing when another pops right on up. How are we supposed to get to our utopia when it seems as if all roads are blocked and we have ANOTHER flat tire or our engine has over heated for the 3rd time in the past month? How, damn it. How?! Pardon my French, but it’s the best way to get my point across.
Slow and steady wins the race. It’s something we learned way back in Kindergarten and it’s something we must remember as we are traveling down the roads of life listening to Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. Life isn’t a quick race. It’s a marathon. You have to be in it for the long haul and you have to be prepared for the arrows that direct you down different paths that will ultimately get you to those greener pastures. There will be hills and long dusty roads but when you get to catch that first glimpse of that finish line, oh what a glorious feeling that will be. You did it. And you will then look back on all those frustrating (at the time) miles and know how truly amazing you actually are. That it takes more than a couple bumps and bruises to make you throw in the towel. And then you will realize that God actually lead you down those curvy, slow traveling paths to help you catch your breath for the next straight away. To help you be thankful for every inch that helped you catch your breath so you’re ready for the next time that life speeds up.
There is no cruise control in life. You can’t just set it to 55 Stay alive and expect to actually live. Sure you may survive life, but that’s not the same as living. You have to see the signs life shows you and follow them. Sure that smooth straight away looks much more appealing than the dark curvy path that’s filled with hills. But when you hit this kind of fork in the road, remember God wouldn’t direct you in the wrong direction. You may be going down that path to help someone else along or because what’s on the other side of the woods is something worth the hard work. But either which way, trust in the signs. They are there for a reason. God wouldn’t put you on a path that you weren’t destined to be on. Take a water break, change the oil, but always get back going. Because moving forward, no matter how slow, is still progress.
