They say that the pen is mightier than the sword, but what’s mightier than the pen? Thursday night I had the honor of talking at the Little Flowers group in Ft. Recovery. I talked to daughters, moms, granddaughters, grandmothers, and aunts. And after I was finished, they handed me something called a “Whispered Prayer Bracelet” and that’s what inspired this post today. A silent prayer is mightier than the pen. In fact, it’s one of the mightiest tools in any of our back pockets. Because a silent prayer is like a snowflake to an avalanche, with the avalanche being a miracle. All it takes is one to start it and each one can come from anywhere at anytime. But it takes a bunch of snowflakes for an avalanche to occur and it takes a bunch of silent prayers for a miracle to occur. See the correlation?
God knows. He knows when you need Him most and He hears every single silent prayer you have. You don’t always have to be in the front pew in church every Sunday for God to hear you. Because God knows. He knows that you love Him and it doesn’t take shouting from the roof tops for him to know it. No boom box above your head required. And even though you may not be saying a single word, the action of a silent prayer says more than you realize. It tells God that you feel so comfortable with Him that you can talk to Him anywhere. It tells God that you are never too busy for Him. And it shows God that you truly believe in His hand at work and the miracles that He provides. Like I said, your silent prayers speak volumes.
First hand, I have witnessed a miracle. I have been the miracle. And I know that that miracle was made stronger by the thousands of whispered & silent prayers for me and my family. The whispered prayers didn’t come from only the people who knew me or sent cards or donated money. They also came from people who knew nothing about me besides the fact that I needed a miracle. And every single person who whispered a prayer for me helped make my fight a little easier and myself today, a little more stronger. So the next time you run into something hard, instead of running for the sword or searching for that pen, whisper a prayer. Because prayers are often the instruction manuals for God when it comes to our lives. God hears and sees what we praying for. Sure, sometimes when God puts us back together a few parts wind up missing. Kind of like the extra nuts & bolts we always wind up having after putting something together. But most of the time, that chair you just assembled at home, rocks just as nicely without that few extra nuts & bolts.
So here I am, wrapping this post up by asking you to whisper a prayer. Believe in the miracles of life. And know the strength of those unspoken words that you feel all the way down to your soul. That is what makes you mighty.
