I know a lot of us farm wives have read and shared a lot of from the heart, on point articles written by other Farm Wives about their farmer and this time of year, but what’s one more? This is just a reminder that Farming is a way of life. And it’s a very good one at that. It’s subtle teaching techniques and ability to show us that patience is a virtue is absolutely mind boggling. It’s generational & going back to your roots never hurts your yield. Ok, maybe I shouldn’t say never, but it’s a low, low percentage if it does. It’s one of the only occupations where your farmer may see the meteorologist on the weather channel more than he sees his spouse and any Farm Wife is ok with that. It’s the time of year where you want your husband to be in two places at once. In your bed laying next to you and in the tractor planting corn before the next rain shower passes through. Planting season is the time that every other day of the year relies on to feed your farm animals & livestock. Your family, friends & neighbors. It’s the time of the year for the most grueling, worry line creating, and rewarding work one will ever do and many farmers do it without a single thank you from the mouths they are about to feed. They know how vital their work is and going unnoticed isn’t going to stop them from getting those seeds in the ground. And for that, I want to thank the farmers, including my own.
That 10 car line that’s moving down the highway and slowing you down, isn’t done on purpose. If a farmer could move faster, they would. Any farmer or farmers wife can attest to this. When planting season starts, it’s 100mph till all of their crops are in. They are trying to beat the weather clock, not make you clock in late for work. So please try to remember that the next time you are playing follow the leader with a Massey Ferguson pulling a bean planter. And remember what’s on the line here. That farmer that you’re cursing under your breath is probably someone’s husband or dad. Someone’s son or uncle or friend. And someone’s ability to eat this year because, on average, a farmers feeds 155 people annually, worldwide. So as much as you’re feeling the pressure to get to work on time, they are also feeling the pressure with a late planting season or a piece of equipment that isn’t working the way it should. Those farmers already know what’s riding on their ability to get those seeds in the ground without you riding their crumbler.
So today I ask for you to pray for the farmers and planting season 2019. Pray for my farmer, your farmer, your farming neighbors, your kids farming dads & grandpas. Your sons, uncles, brothers & brother in laws who farm. Because even though many people don’t realize what all a farmer does, there are people that do. And they are the farmers wife. The women that are at home with 3 kids and know that anything can happen when their farmer steps in or out of that tractor. Pray for fertile soil & the old machinery that’s been doing its job for the last several decades. And finally, pray for the Farmers Wife. May they be able to handle the job of a single Mom for the next couple days or weeks without cracking. May they be able to get that seed out to her farmer while juggling 3 kids and supper, lunch, laundry & bath time. Life on the farm is no joke, but it sure is a blessing & I wouldn’t have it any other way.
