The One Legged Mom

Being a Mom doesn't stop just because I lost a leg…

Sunny & 42°

Do you know how you know you’re living a good life? When you’re just as happy when it’s sunny and 42° as you are when it’s sunny and 75°. When you’re itching to get your kids outside to play in that 10 degrees above freezing weather. When you know perfect is a mindset and not an actual, set in stone thing. That last sentence is actually the true key to happiness. Because once you realize that, you’ll figure out the things that make you happy and that happiness is basically perfection.

By textbook definition, my life is far from perfect. Almost died twice. Missing a limb. Missing full function in my dominant arm. But by Josie definition, what more could I ask for? I’m alive. I have a very toned right leg and super buff arms. You drive with your right leg so I didn’t have to relearn anything in that department. I have 3 beautiful kids. A loving husband that does not see anything but the beautiful & strong woman he married 5+ years ago. A nice home that is fitted to my needs. A job, friends & family that I love. And I’m happy with 42° weather. I mean look at those numbers. My definition of perfect kicks textbooks definition’s ass on a daily basis. Sure there are things I’d change about my life if asked, but those things don’t make for a terrible life. It actually makes for an adventurous life. A life filled with thought and new ideas on a daily basis. And who would complain about that?

So today I challenge you to put a little spring in your step. Instead of burying yourself deeper in the winter blues, catch a little spring fever even if it’s only 10° above freezing outside. I challenge you to throw out the textbook that’s telling you what a perfect life should be and start realizing how perfect your life actually is. This life was made for you. Molded to you. That rough patch didn’t make you ugly or imperfect. It gave you texture and depth. Gave you another layer of beauty that can be seen if you look just right. And remember what I told you in the first place. Perfect is a mindset and happiness is perfect.
