Grey’s Anatomy has inspired me again. I’m currently on like my 75th binge of watching all the seasons that are on Netflix when a line kind of hit me. We are each other keepers. Think about it. How many times have you told a secret to your best friend? Or your husband? Or even a complete stranger? Not because you love gossip or just don’t have anything else to talk about, but because if you don’t you might break. That if you don’t you’re not sure what the next step is. Often times these types of secrets aren’t even about other people. These secrets are ones you hold down deep inside for fear that letting them surface will only create feelings you really aren’t sure you can or will ever be prepared to face alone. So we confide. We confide in loved ones, in friends, and complete strangers. Because that’s the only thing left to do so we don’t break.
It is very likely that we physically will not break. Our bodies are meant to endure very hard and long days and moments. It’s our spirit that we are worried about breaking. Because our spirit can have an incredibly long recovery time. Far longer than many physical pains. And who wants to live without their spirit for an extended period of time? To lose their inner beast no matter how dainty or powerful it may be? Our keepers are literally like zoo keepers in an analogy, humane kind of way. They feed our soul. They keep us happy and warm. (Disclaimer: I am not saying caged animals are always happy & content but you get what I am saying). They help protect us from the elements and predators if possible. They want our inner beast to be as beastly as we want it to be because not only do they want us to be happy, chances are we are their keepers too. We feed off of each other in order to survive even one more day in the life of us. Because life is hard. Surviving is hard. And we can’t keep up by ourselves.
People need people. People need keepers of their love and happiness and secrets. People hold their own happiness in the palm of their hands, I know, but how many homes or cars have you ever seen that only had 1 key to open it’s doors? We need that back up, that keeper of the extra key, to know how that vehicle or home operates or threat of irreversible damage becomes present. Or even worse, if no one hold that extra key, you may become shut down forever. Your inner beast will never see the light of day again and essentially disappear. And who benefits from that? Your enemies? Highly unlikely. Because the world is never going to be the same without the people we don’t like as much. Balance is key. Balance is necessary. So confide my friends. In a loving home or an unlikely place. But any which way, keep your spirit well fed, well sheltered, and ready to roar.
