The One Legged Mom

Being a Mom doesn't stop just because I lost a leg…

Judging a Book by it’s Cover

So I was writing a very deep post when maybe the most insightful thought that has ever crossed my mind came into my head. Have you ever went to the library and cracked a book open to some random chapter, read it, and then based the fact of whether you wanted to read that book on that 5 minute read? I’m sure some of you have. But do you ever think that maybe you came in on the wrong chapter of that book? Either too early or late to the really good part? And now all of a sudden you are putting a book that could’ve been a new favorite if you just so happened to flip to the next chapter instead of the one you read? Do you wonder where I am going with this? Apply this to people.

That’s where this gets thought provoking. Ever meet someone for the first time and think either they have it all together or that they are a complete mess? Ever wonder what they were like yesterday, or last week, or last year? Or what path they are traveling and what their next page or chapter will hold? Every story you have ever read or every movie you have ever watched has had highs and lows. Multiples of both of those actually. So maybe you tuned in at a low point and you didn’t stick around long enough to see the person that they actually are. We all have bad days. And messy days. And grumpy days. And just because you happened to meet a person on one of those kinds of days doesn’t mean they deserve to be put back on the shelf and pegged as a bad read forever. Doesn’t mean we should be giving that book a bad review to our friends because until you know the whole story, who are you to judge?

My life story is full of highs and lows. It’s basically a roller coaster ride. Slow to reach peaks only to drop off very quickly. Many of you started in on my story 23 chapters in. And if you are still reading, I appreciate it. But today I challenge you to not pick your next book by it’s cover or by a couple pages you just so happened to flip to to skim in the middle. A wonderful story is not told in a few pages. So instead, choose your next book by chance. Sure I will let you pick the genre. Funny. Romantic. Adventure. Action. Whatever. You can likely find the genre you’re looking for in certain places. But don’t decide on the book till you get the whole stories. Because in the end, it may be your new favorite.
