The One Legged Mom

Being a Mom doesn't stop just because I lost a leg…

Homeless is my look…

To the mom who looks homeless…

Why is it that we always notice how terrible we looked today after we made a quick trip to the grocery store? Like did we not walk in front of a mirror or anything that provided a reflection today? I mean it’s a good thing we dressed our kids so cute today so that everyone paid all their attention to them and hardly noticed the 2 day hair, spit stained sweat shirt, and baggy sweat pants. They don’t notice the 2lb’s of cheese in your cart or the box of zebra cakes that you have thrown in there too because you plan to use them as bribes on your kids because your kids are putting on a sweet little show that you haven’t seen all day. And do you know what makes all of that ok? Your kids are happy, healthy, and fed.

There is nothing wrong with looking homeless while being a mom. There is no sort of rule saying you must do your hair, makeup, and look nice to be a good mom. And let’s be honest, playing on the floor is a whole of a lot comfier in those baggy sweat pants you wore to the grocery store than a pair of skinny jeans. And what makes it even better is that our kids hardly even notice what we wear. They notice the vibes we are sending them, the emotions on our faces, and the love that we provide them.

Yes. I know my kids are still little yet and as they grow the “homeless look” will begin to embarrass them. They will begin to ask me to put actual pants on for pick up and ask me to drop them off at the door instead of walking them in. But for the time being, while they are still little, I am going to rock that spit up and sweat pants look. I am going to show them that beauty is more than skin deep or the clothes we wear and that leggings are something you can dress up and down. Because let me tell you, if you ever lose a limb up to your hip, you will also agree that leggings are pants and that jeans SUCK to wear. I am also going to take the phase where I embarrass them in stride as my mom did and her mom did, as well as all the moms before us. And when it comes full circle again, and my kids become parents, I am going to not even notice that they show up at my door in 2 day hair, a spit stained sweat shirt, and baggy sweat pants because then at least I know they are happy, healthy, and fed….
